i've had kribs with corys and had no issues until mating season

your stock list sounds fine to me
i love a shoal of cories,i have 9 in my 55
you could easily double that. like 10 panda and 10 patch cories
i had rasboras once and they are one of the best...

i would go with kribs.
they can co-exist with community fish
just dont get a male and female, then they will rule the tank when spawning

do you gravel vac?
if you cant smell it when you walk in your house then you should be fine.
all my tanks smell a little murky,but only if my nose is 2 inches from the water line

im not familiar with using the algaefix product,
but it sounds like a band aid instead of a fix
you wrote that the algea is coming back faster

with weekly w/c of 25-50%
though it wouldnt hurt to use if one of my tanks looked a little hazy

i feed my bushynose pleco zuccini since there is not much algea for him.
my other fish pick at it aswell
i slice a bunch up and freeze them till needed

i know that fish food can cause algea because it has some phosphates in it. and sometimes if the bulb is old it could cause algea,but to me thats a good excuse to buy a cool algea eating crew:)

i prefer canasters myself, you have way more room for media and the flow is pretty good for circulation, and i clean it less often than a backpack
but its a pita to clean ,its heavy to move and...

sometimes when i buy plecos or other algea eaters ,mine die for no aparent reasons aswell
it looks like maybe your nitrites could have been a factor
you need zero nitrites
10 nitrates is pretty...

i have 5 high fin mollies and they do that from time to time
my guess would be to lower the nitrates first
i would change 20 percent daily until have 10-15 ppm of nitrates
im sure salt wouldnt...
