Anabolism..................Do not buy anything below 4kw sustained out put. For house hold needs. Even a 4kw will barely take care of the number of things that you will try to plug into it. I lost an entire house to hurricane Hugo in 1989 and in the rubble we went 21 days with out power. I had a Honda 2.5 that we had to alternate between appliances because it wouldn't take the load. If you have the room go for the biggest you can get. You will be surprised that the bigger out put units are not that more expensive than smaller units. Check the pawn shops for used generators. I bought a 7kw with self start for $300. It is sitting in my garage.
