You change your filter media and it won't have an impact on you bacteria. You didn't say how long the filters have been in place. The majority of your bacteria is in the substrate if the tank has fully cycled. If you do remove the bio-wheel, place it in the used water from the aquarium or place in the aquarium until time to put it back in place.

Be careful...A lot of the bacteria is in the filter media. Media doesn't actually need to be replaced until it's worn out. Just rinse it in tank water if it's dirty. When it is worn out, I always place a "piece"of the old on top of the new, until the new is seeded.

the Tank has been up and running for about one month now I have an eclipse Filter in one section then it flows into a septrate compartment with a bio wheel then out into the aquarium im not sure if the filter needs changing The Guy at petsmart said to change them monthly. My Aquarium came with 3 other eclipse filter Replacements but no "media" now media is just the milk carton looking box at the store with the activated carbon in it right sorry for the stupid questions very new to Fishkeeping havent learned all the lingo yet

Don't worry, no ? is stupid yes that's right, filter "media" is basically anything that goes inside the actual filter compartment such as the sponge/cartridge, bio-wheel etc.

Yes...it is recommended that the charcoal be changed once a month. Just rinse the foam, when it gets dirty. (When you do a water change, use the old tank water to rinse the foam) Do not use tap water, as the chlorine will kill the bacteria...
