Default Info on feeder goldfish, please

What kind of fish are those feeder goldfish? I ask because my students are setting up a new tank in the school library and they want to put the feeder goldfish in it. Kid logic states that the goldfish are cute, colorful and cheap. So they want them But I really don't know anything about them. Any advice, anyone? Are they coldwater? Tropical? How large do they get? Are they just ordinary goldfish?

Yes! they are just normal goldfish Greensleeves, which sadly are often used to cycle a tank or fed to other larger fish/predators (hence the name feeder fish).

Their requirements are the same as any goldfish. Temperature is best for them around 68* but they can withstand big fluctuations in temp. which is why they don't need a heater. They will continue to grow their whole life, so a large tank is needed & they can live for 30 yrs.

The 30 gall. will be OK for a while for 2 (they don't grow quickly) but they will need a bigger tank later on. Goldfish produce a lot of waste, so good filtration/tank maintenance will be needed.
