Default Angel - Pleco issues of compatibility

Hello my name is Mel. This is my first post here.
Recently I got a 30 gal fresh water tank, for my son on his 6th birthday.

for starters i got him some plants Serpae Tetras, Pleco, and some Cory Cats.

we have been through seceral incarnations of neon , black tetras all have been killed, by the Serpaes I think. A nasty swordtail that reeked havoc and destruction till we took him back, got a very peacful Farowella (who is thriving) in trade.

From the get go my son has wanted an Angel fish (4 I believe is the approriate number) Now I read on the compatibility guide Angels and Plecos are Incompatible?

Wow I thought Plecos got along with every thing

Any thoughts on why or if Angels and Plecos are not good tank mates?

I have kept plecostomos cats with many different fish with no problems. Some say that plecos will bother discus. I would think that if the pleco starts out small, you should be ok. Mixing different kinds of fish is risky one way or the other.

I keep my Angels with a pleco and have only noticed aggression during feeding time, he usually chases the other fish away or bumps them, it's never serious enough to kill them though.

I would recomend only getting 2 angels, when they get older they pair off and become aggressive, expecially when they lay eggs (trust me)
Plus they get to be 6" each.

Really it depends on the fish it'self. I have had people tell me when I purchased my severums that they are very aggressive and will destroy your tank because theirs apperently did.

Well now my severums are living in my tank wonderfully! And are using the tank to their advantage. So I say you should add the pleco. I have two large plecos in my tank right now.

I wonder if the Angels will be nipped by the Serpaes.......although they are listed as compatible.

I think this will be a famous quote by me, "mixing fish is a risky busines". There is always a chance that fish will not behave the way the compatability ratings suggest. Good luck and keep your eyes open.

I'd be thinking that maybe the long fins of the Angel will be very tempting for the Serpaes. Also, I've read many times that you should either have a group of Angels, or just one. I've got one, and she is fairly passive, so far. With two, I think the problem is that one will be dominant over the other, and constantly bully it.............

Size is a big issue with angels as long as you get your angels at the same time and they are about the same size they should be fine.

My angels get along fine and have only fought once (they were spawning) but when I tried adding two smaller angles they killed them.
