Default Snorkeling at Hanauma Bay

Hanauma Bay is located on the Hawaiian island of Oahu and is just east of Diamond Head and Waikiki. It's a popular local beach formed from the basin of an extinct volcano that's been eroded into by the sea. You aren't allowed to touch the coral, which covers most of the bay.

We had a guide take us out there. He provided excellent equipment, gave good instructions and showed us the best spots among the coral. The soft slip ons he provided were extremely comfortable. In future, I?d just take local transportation there though, as they rent snorkel gear at the bay and it?s a very safe location.

The wind was driving on shore, so the water wasn?t very clear and the tide was wrong for seeing any turtles. I did get a few pictures with my new underwater camera, but as it was my first time, I had trouble with the focus and also made a mistake by not washing the lens when I took the camera out of the water for 5 minutes ? the salt crystallized and spoiled the next set of photos. The camera does work very well. It's an Olympus Stylus 850 SW and is good to 10 feet.

If anyone can identify these, other than the first one (a convict tang), then let me know.

The fourth pic looks like one of the grunts, may be a "Sailor's Choice". The third pic is a Ring Tail and the fifth is the same fish shot from above.

Best match I've seen for the 4th one is a Blue Stripe Snapper, Lutjanus kasmira which were not native to Hawaii.

I agree with it being a snapper. The sailor's choice has more stripes.
