Question Water for marine tank!!!!

i am thinking of starting a marine tank and I have see sites that say you MUST use R/O water and others tell me that it is fine to use tap water if it has been declorinaded and treated then let set at room temps for a week befor mixing it with salt... Which is true and which is not....thx for the help rob

Rob, both are true! RO/DI water is superior in that it is virtually pure.........Average tap water will work just fine if you are not going to keep sensitive corals.............I have used natural seawater, tap water, and RO/DI water successfully in the past with no real problems.

What ever type water you choose, the cycling of the bio system is the most critical aspect of starting a marine tank....Please research as much as you can about marine aquarium keeping before you start setting up one.........I will be glad to help you as best as I can.

Dan

thanks Dan I will be ongoing with the research on a marine tank and i will be taking my time with the set up and with the cycle...so fare I plan to use live rock with the cycle even if it is only going to be a fish only tank and I will use ocean sand from the LFS....That is all i know for sure right now.... I also know I do not want to get in too any reef or coral for a while till I get the marine tank thing too a sciance....lol thx Rob

Look in the gallery for my pics of two 55 gallon tanks sitting together.....The were FOLR........Between the two tanks there was about 150 lbs of prime L/R with good Coraline algae growth.....I thought it might give you some ideas.
