Default betta & guppy

I need advice, i have a male and female guppy, and I really want a betta too. I have heard in the threads, that some people don't have a problem, combining the two fish, but the compatibility chart says otherwise. Please advise???

There's a large chance the Male Betta will attack the male guppy because of his tail. The tail is colorful and the male betta see's it as competition. I'm not sure if it's a good idea but I heard a female betta works better in community tanks. I think the female will work out better, and some can be very pretty.

she shouldn't, the betta may flare up a bit a first if the guppy is viewed as a female because female bettas form a pecking order, but since the guppy will not flare and attack the betta there should't be a problem

hope you have fun

I personally wouldn't have them together...despite the aggression issues, bettas prefer quite a slow moving water current and guppies are rather messy/big waste producers, so depending on how many fish are in the tank you may end up with a water quality problem.
