if there is a pet smart close to you go there. They give away the little snails. Just say that you have a fish that eats them.

Well, I got the these free from the LFS. Unfortunately my wife (who works from home) tells me this puffer is going after the rasboras too. He hides in a bushy plant until they come around and then goes after them...

I had two puffers once in my ten gallon community tank, and for three months they left the other fish alone. But then one day the largest puffer did the same thing. He hid in the plant and waited. I like them as they are cute little critters.

Just make sure there is enough room for them to swim. They do best in a larger tank.

Oh dear....Is it 'back to the LFS for him', then?

No, I've obtained a 5 gallon tank that we'll set up for him. Got more snails from the LFS. You know how snails sometimes float down? Well one never hit bottom.

Maybe keeping him fat & happy will help short term; I bought bio-spira from the LFS tonite so once the tank is setup it won't be long before it's ready.

After doing more reading, I might have found the answer as to why they're fine with other fish in the fish store. For one, they don't have their preferred plants and cover and such, for another even if they remain in the tank awhile their tankmates always change and they never get settled into a heirarchy or anything. Take them home, get them settled, and eventually they go after others.

They also have personalities that can vary significantly so while the 'general rules' of DPs apply the whens, hows, and degrees comprise a wide spectrum.

One other thing: They tend to get bored in the aquarium after awhile, but switching up the layout of the decorations seems to pique their interest.

The big challenge will be catching him. The last one was a tricky one and I think this one will be moreso.

They are interesting little fish... If you can borrow some media, from your cycled filter, the new tank will be instantly cycled........

Well, it's done! He's in his new home and had two snails for "company". He now has one, so he's eating. I know, 'cause I saw him suck the snail out

May get some ghost shrimp for the tank too.

The puffer is more entertaining though

We plan on some ghost shrimp, for both tanks. The puffer may eat the shrimp, or may not. Depends on the puffer.

I hear that a lot when it comes to those guys....
