PH in water?????

Hi everyone I hope someone can help me I have never heard of this befor!!! My father-in-laws tank crashed 2 weeks ago and everything died when he took his water to the LFS for a full testing they told him he had NO ph and ammonia was realy high.... How did this happin or can it happen? If so how can he stop it from happening again....sorry for the long winded thread hope you can help thanks Rob

The water has to have a ph value!....7.0 is neutral and could be referred to as a 0 or zero value, which means that there are no chemicals present that cause acid or alkaline readings.

Hi Dan that is what i thought, there had too be a ph reading, but from what I got from what he told me they said there was no ph at all... I just wanted to find out for sure befor I talked to the father-in-law again... So it just means that he did not cycle his tank long enough befor he added the fish... I guess I didn't say that it was a new set up....thanks Rob
